Dear Northern Soils Network,
I am writing to update you on progress with the network since I took over as Chair. Unfortunately, ill-health stymied my initial attempts, but I'm now firing on all cylinders.
I am currently planning events for the year ahead, but I'd appreciate some input from you. We have an incredible range of research across the region so people's needs are likely to be highly varied. I'd love to hear from you. What topics would you like to see us address in workshops/field events (eg. peat restoration, carbon in soils, climate change and soil, soils and flood management, soil manufacture etc etc)? I'm particularly keen to hear from post-graduate students/early career researchers, but everyone's thoughts are valuable. We have a blank canvas at present so let's fill it with lots of soily topics.
At the moment we do not have any support group and I'm keen to set something up. For now, I suggest that we have a student rep and a deputy Chair. Please contact me if you feel you could contribute to either of these roles. The roles would just be supportive; I would not want them to be onerous because I know how busy everyone is. So, if you are enthusiastic about soil, can motivate others and would like to contribute to the activities of the network please do get in touch. I'd love to hear from you. You can contact me at email@example.com.
I look forward to hearing from you all. In the meantime let's continue to celebrate soil and tell everyone about our vital resource,
With very best wishes,
