The Northern Soils Network (NSN) originally comprised two Northern Regional Soil Discussion Groups (East and West) but combined forces in recent years to improve the group offering.
Group Chair: Dr Manoj Menon
Deputy Chair: Dr Eleanor Reed
Dear Northern Soils Network,
I am writing to update you on progress with the network since I took over as Chair. Unfortunately, ill-health stymied my initial attempts, but I'm now firing on all cylinders.
Some of you will know that I have agreed to take over the role of Chair of the NSN from Peter Shanahan. I'm passionate about soil having taught and researched it for 30+ years. So, I accept the role with delight, but with a smidgen of trepidation. I'd like to take this opportunity to thank Peter for the excellent work that he has done for the NSN. I hope that I can do as well as he did.
It was a very good council meeting in Edinburgh on 24th March.
The following are things for NSN members to consider:
- If you have any events planned for IYS2015 please get in touch.
- BSSS merchandising is available from Cranfield, including pens, leaflets and golf tees!
- BSSS is looking to become more involved in policy and would like to know of who (and how) to contact members of parliament and the House of Lords.

The event follows the format of London Hyde Park’s Speaker’s Corner, which is historically an arena for public debate. With Soapbox Science, we want to make sure that everyone has the opportunity to enjoy, learn from, heckle, question, probe, interact with and be inspired by some of our leading scientists.
