The Chair & Executive Committee of the UK Council for Graduate Education invite nominations for election to the UKCGE Executive Committee for the period July 2018 to July 2021.
Every four years the officers for the IUSS Divisions and Commissions are newly elected. Voting by IUSS Members is conducted electronically on a one vote per individual in each National Member Society basis.
In line with the IUSS Bye-laws (version Oct. 2014) the national Soil Science Societies shall have organized the national voting of officers for Divisions and Commissions.
Voting results from 35 societies with 127,148 individual votes were received.
The awards will celebrate and reward NERC-funded researchers, as individuals or teams, whose work has had substantial impact on the economy and society either in the UK or abroad.
There are three award categories;
Economic Impact Award
Recognising research that has led to demonstrable economic benefit.
Because of the very low nitrate levels found in arctic tundra soil, scientists had assumed that plants in this biome do not use nitrate. But a new study challenges this notion. The study has important implications for predicting which arctic plant species will dominate as the climate warms, as well as how much carbon tundra ecosystems can store.
