Plant a Tree - Soil Scientist Included

To celebrate World Soil Day and to launch the 2015 International Year of Soils on Friday 5th December 2014 the British Society of Soil Science will be planting 30 trees at selected schools across the United Kindom.

A Rowan tree will be delivered to the school and a UK Soil Scientist will be on hand to plant the tree and speak to the children about the importance of soil.

UK Soil Observatory win an award

UK Soil Observatory (UKSO) has won  the Excellence with Impact Award in Geospatial Excellence from the Association for Geographic Information (AGI). AGI describe this award as recognising projects which have achieved outstanding success or impact, measured against societal, humanitarian, environmental or financial benchmarks.

Soils and regolith: from parent rock to critical resource

Training course running from 23rd to 25th February 2015 at the Natural History Museum, London.

Open to all PhD students, postdoctoral researchers and early-career scientists in a related field of study. Priority is given to those with NERC-funding (PhD or current). Maximum of 16 places are available. This workshop is fully funded by NERC and all costs (travel, daily lunch, refreshments, and accommodation) are covered.
