Working with Soil - Agricultural Land Classification (England and Wales)

The next Working with Soil Training course began at 9.30am this morning at the Natural England Offices in Bristol.

17 delegates are spending the next two days learning about Agricultural Land Classification for England and Wales in a course which has been designed by Ian Rugg (Welsh Government), Julie Holloway and Gill Shaw (both Natural England).

Plant a Tree - Soil Scientist Included

To celebrate World Soil Day and to launch the 2015 International Year of Soils on Friday 5th December 2014 the British Society of Soil Science will be planting 30 trees at selected schools across the United Kindom.

A Rowan tree will be delivered to the school and a UK Soil Scientist will be on hand to plant the tree and speak to the children about the importance of soil.

UK Soil Observatory win an award

UK Soil Observatory (UKSO) has won  the Excellence with Impact Award in Geospatial Excellence from the Association for Geographic Information (AGI). AGI describe this award as recognising projects which have achieved outstanding success or impact, measured against societal, humanitarian, environmental or financial benchmarks.
