Forests across the United States -- and especially forest soils -- store massive amounts of carbon, offsetting about 10 percent of the country's annual greenhouse gas emissions and helping to mitigate climate change.
Council Member Leila Froud watched a programme on Chanel 4 this week "Hannibal's Elephant Army: The New Evidence " which showed a team of scientists digging cores in a mountain clearing on the alps and found “disturbed soils” at depth, these were from when Hannibal’s army of horses and elephants from rested for a while en route to Rome! Also, high levels of nutrient in the horse manure was still evident in the soils all these centuries on.
