Society Journals - Substantial Increase in Impact Factor for EJSS and SUM

20th June 2016

Both of the British Society of Soil Science Journals have seen their Impact Factor (IF) increase by over 20% in the 2015 Citation Ranking Metrics.

European Journal of Soil Science

2-year impact factor is up 29% from 2.649 to 3.425

Up 4 places in the Soil Science rankings from 7th to 3rd.

Editor in Chief, Professor Margaret Oliver commented "News of the impact for the year is a nail-biting wait for journal editors. The outcome for the European Journal of Soil Science is excellent. My aim as editor-in-chief was to reach an IF of 3, but we have exceeded that expectation with an IF of 3.425, an increase of 29% on last year. This reflects the efforts of the entire team, both past and present, which plays a part in getting papers to the point of publication.  This increase means that EJSS is now ranked third out of 34 in the world in soil science. The IF can fluctuate considerably from year to year, but I hope to be able to maintain this level in spite of the causes of the fluctuation".

Soil Use and Management

2-year impact factor is up 24% from 1.466 to 1.823

Up 5 places in the Soil Science rankings from 17th to 12th

Editor in Chief, Professor Mike Goss commented "I am very pleased to report a 24% increase in our two-year impact factor (IF) to 1.823. Of more significance is the steady upwards trend in the 5 year IF, up another 3% this year to 2.352, and the indication that our relative position among the 34 soil science journals is solidly in mid-table and showing a slow but steady improvement to 12th this year".

Society President Professor Liz Baggs noted the good news and congratulated the Editorial teams working on both Journals.
