NERC will be moving to a new system of releasing scores from peer reviewers to applicants.
A number of research councils have recently moved toward being more transparent in their peer review processes, and now release the scores given by peer reviewers to applicants. As part of wider UKRI harmonisation, NERC will also be moving towards releasing peer reviewer scores to applicants. This will be implemented firstly for the July 2019 Standard and New Investigator funding round and will then be rolled out to other funding calls over the next few months.
Applicants should note that reviewers' scores often do not match their comments, particularly where peer reviewers are not familiar with the UK funding system, and for this reason consistently high reviewer scores do not necessarily translate to a high score at panel.
