The Board is seeking to fill 3 vacancies this year. The Board is particularly interested in receiving nominations from individuals with knowledge/expertise of the technician workforce and knowledge/expertise of registration and professional standards. The Board would also welcome nominations from individuals with knowledge/expertise in diversity and equality and in financial management and accounting.
While there have been several expressions of interest no nominations have been submitted. The Board has struggled over the years to have a diverse range of individuals on the Board, in particular an adequate gender split; only three of the current ten trustees are women. Applications for Trustees must be supported by the Society and the closing date for nominations is 5pm, Monday 28th May 2018. The online application form can be found here. You will also find links to the trustee recruitment pack and trustee role description. If you would like to know more about the elections and the vacancies, please contact Oli O’Hanlon (email@example.com).
The Board would welcome expressions of interest and nominations from individuals across the membership to full up to 2 co-opted trustee vacancies. The Board is interested in receiving nominations from individuals to support it in developing a revised strategy for the charity. Co-opted trustees will serve until the next General Meeting following their co-option, upon which they must stand down from the Board, or may seek election to the board as an Elected Trustee.
If you would like to know more about co-option opportunities, please contact Dr Helen Pain (PainH@rsc.org). If you would like to be considered for co-option, please send an up-to-date CV and covering letter to Oli O’Hanlon (firstname.lastname@example.org) stating why you want to be a trustee and what you will bring to the role by 5pm Friday 1st June. Candidates’ information will be sent to the Board on Monday 4th June, which will review the nominations and approve the co-option of up to two individuals. Candidates will be notified of the Board’s decision by Friday 15th June.
Please note that the remaining Board Meetings in 2018 are Wednesday 4th July, Wednesday 17th October and Wednesday 12th December, all taking place between 10am and 1pm. In addition, time should be allowed for reading papers and preparing in advance of Board meetings, and being available via phone or email to communicate with the Chair or General Manager.
Registration Authority Membership
The Board is seeking to appoint up to 3 people to join the Registration Authority, and is especially interested in receiving applications from individuals with knowledge and expertise of qualifications in academia, technical/vocational qualifications and apprenticeships. However, expressions of interest have been limited. The application period is open until 9.00am, Tuesday 29th May. Following its close, applicants’ information (which will be name-blind) will be circulated to members of the RA. Having considered candidates’ relative strengths against its own requirements, the RA will make a recommendation to the Board of Trustees’ meeting on 4th July, at which new members of the RA will be appointed. New members will take office immediately and their first meeting will be on Thursday 9th August. Science Council staff will be in touch with successful applicants to arrange an induction meeting.
Applicants should send, in Word format, a covering letter and CV, both of which should be no more than two pages in length. The covering letter should include details of why the applicant wants to join the RA and what they would bring to the role. Please send your covering letter and CV to Oli O’Hanlon (email@example.com). The final two RA meetings of 2018 are 11.00am-2.00pm, Thursday 9th August, Royal Society of Chemistry, London and 11.00am-2.00pm, Tuesday 6th November (venue TBC).
