British Soil Physics Group

About us

The British Soil Physics Group was set up in 1980 to provide an informal opportunity for soil physicists to meet and discuss topical issues and problems in the general field of soil physics. Membership of the group is free and meetings take place on an annual basis with the location shared among the group members. Since its first meeting in Harpenden in Sept 1980 where the use of tensiometers was discussed the group has tackled many issues from shrink/swell phenomena to solute flow to characterisation of soil structure. With increased pressures on land and water resources, coupled with the development of new technologies such as impedance sensors and X-ray Computed Tomography, the importance of many applications of soil physics has never been more relevant.
