STEM Outreach Competition - I'm A Scientist - Call for Volunteers

22nd September 2017

I’m a Scientist is an online STEM outreach competition that gets people in science talking about their work with school students across the UK. Members of the British Society of Soil Science are invited to apply to take part in the next online event, running 6th–17th November.

“I knew the event was going to be fun but I vastly underestimated how much fun. The questions asked were both fun and challenging, keeping me on my toes at all times and giving me a fresh perspective and enthusiasm for my own work.” – Dan Smith, chemist

Taking part is an exciting and accessible way to develop your communication skills and gain a fresh perspective on your work– all while showing students what it's really like to work in science and the wide variety of roles available.

Everything happens online so taking part is flexible and can be done from your desk or smartphone. There’s no need to prepare activities or take a day off, just log in to answer online questions from students and engage directly with classes alongside fellow scientists in live, text-based, chats. Students then vote for their favourite scientists, who wins £500 to fund more outreach activities.
