We would like to invite you to consider applying for one of our fully funded PhD studentships.

STARS (Soils Training And Research Studentships) is tackling the shortage of soil scientists by providing excellent science students with the training and support they need to gain a Doctorate in this indispensable area of research, vital for future food security and so much more. 

STARS Centre for Doctoral Training (CDT) is an exciting consortium of 4 core universities and 4 research institutes from around the UK, working with wider partners, collaborating to offer training to PhD students in soil science.  Funded by NERC and BBSRC, our STARS College brings together PhD students in soil science along with leading experts in the field. 

The unique STARS CDT brings many benefits, including;

  • Structured and stimulating learning via the STARS academy – online, face-to-face and with peer to peer support
  • Exposure to key soil ‘platforms’ and multidisciplinary research
  • Access to state-of-the-art research facilities
  • National/international placement opportunities
  • The opportunity to work with industrial partners through one of the CASE studentships
