Today at the 20th World Congress of Soil Science the International Union of Soil Sciences (IUSS) has awarded the 2022 World Congress to the British Society of Soil Science. The 20th World Congress of Soil Science is currently taking place at the International Convention Centre, Jeju Island, South Korea. Entitled “Soils embrace life and universe” the congress celebrates the 90th anniversary of the IUSS.
The UK bid presentation team led by Dr Bruce Lascelles (Hyder Consulting) and assisted by Dawn Lauder (Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre) and Beverley MacLean (Glasgow City Marketing Bureau) faced competitor bids from China, Italy and Switzerland. The UK bid to host the 2022 World Congress of Soil Science in Glasgow, Scotland won by a clear majority and is fully supported by the IUSS Council.
Speaking after the presentation Bid Committee Chair Dr Bruce Lascelles announced “ This is a momentous occasion for UK Science”
British Society of Soil Science President Professor Phil Haygarth (Lancaster University) remarked “A well deserved result for a fabulous hard working team”
In partnership with Glasgow City Marketing Bureau, Scottish Exhibition + Conference Centre, the British Society of Soil Science presented its vision for 2022 “Soil science comes alive: crossing boundaries – changing society”. Collaborating with international soil science societies, industry and wider stakeholder groups the Society plans to make the 2022 Congress a focus for soil science across the world.
Dr Kathryn Allton Executive Officer of The British Society of Soil Science said “over the last four and a half years the Society has worked hard to develop both the vision and delivery of this bid”
