BSSS Member Stuart Smith is currently based in the Falkland Islands working on a 2 year project on restoring eroded peatland soil. Stuart volunteered to fly the BSSS flag on World Soil Day, 5th December 2014 and arranged to plant a Boxwood, Hebe elliptica at Stanley's Primary and Secondary Schools.
Congratulations to Chris Moorin, winner of the 2014 BSSS MSc Dissertation Prize Winner (University of Reading) for his on ‘the impact of different organic amendments on potentially toxic element (PTE) bioavailability in soils and the possible evolutionary adaptation of Common Bentgrass (Agrostis capillaris L.) to high PTE concentrations’, supervised by Dr Denise Lambkin.
The Society hosted a delegation from the Department of Agriculture and Animal Husbandry from Gansu Province China on Monday 15th December 2014. Society Member and Editor of SUM Journal Professor Mike Goss welcomed them to Cranfield University with a presentation on Soil Resource Protection and Management.
